A Lady In Waiting

Psalm 27:13,14

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.”

In my pursuit of starting the year on the right note, I committed to daily devotions and participated in CCF’s Prayer and Fasting Week. So as my annoying morning alarm went off, I chose to completely fight the urge to hit the snooze button and embrace the day with a happy heart. I started the day with my usual morning prayer and randomly selected the Verse of the Day, Psalm 27:4-5, as my devotion. Curiosity, or perhaps hunger for the Word, led me to explore the entire chapter, and it was the final verses, 13 and 14, that truly resonated with me. Inspired by a challenge to memorize verses, I decided to memorize Psalm 27:13-14 as a starter.

For some strange reason, my Instagram feed had been flooded with posts such as “A Prayer For the One Waiting…” or “Dear Single Christian…”—all pointing to the essence of patience. It instantly brought Psalm 27:13-14 to mind and at that moment, I made peace with the notion of waiting, realizing it wasn’t a foreign concept to me.

The past week was.. relatively good. It went by fast without external challenges, yet my thoughts and emotions were in chaos. Amidst this internal turmoil, the Sunday sermon brought an unexpected yet familiar reminder. The Pastor flashed my memory verse on the screen- Psalm 27:13,14. I laughed so hard upon seeing it! It was the third time in January that the Lord told me to WAIT!

It was URW’s Vision Casting Day (URW is a ministry that shares the gospel through worship). Before delving into planning the year ahead, our ministry pastor delivered a brief yet impactful message about standing firm in the Word and being the salt and light in a rapidly changing world. Unexpectedly, he quoted my memory verse, Psalm 27:13, 14, reminding us that waiting on the Lord remains essential even in a fast-paced world. I was once again awestruck when I heard it. It made me realize that this is the first time in a long time that I am clearly hearing the Lord speaking to me.

It’s easy to lose sight of hope as we navigate through life because life itself can feel isolating and defeating at times. Yet, in these verses, there’s a promise-– a certainty that we’ll witness the goodness of the Lord unfolding right before our eyes. The key lies in finding the strength to endure the process and standing firm on His promises.

“Wait.”

“Endure.”

“I am with you.”
